Note that pin 3 on the 9 pin connector is the Transmit Data
(DATA OUT) and pin 2 is the Receive Data (DATA IN). On the 25 Pin connector
pin 2 is the Transmit Data and pin 3 is the Receive Data. NOTE
THAT THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS PHYSICAL CONNECTION IS HOOKING A TRANSMIT
DATA(TD) LINE TO AN OTHER TRANSMIT DATA LINE, two outputs when hooked
to each other can not pass data. Also note that the pin numbers
on all connectors are on the connectors themselves in extremely small print
next to the pins themselves.
Physical layer INSTRUCTIONS
There are two 25 to 9 pin adapters supplied with the DLM200
series. Using the 25 pin to 9 pin adapter which has a Female 9 pin connector,
attach the 25 pin connector side of the adapter to one end of the DLM monitor
cable. Then attach the 9 pin connector side of the adapter to the PC com
port. If you have a Null Modem attach it to other end of the DLM monitor
cable. Attach the other end of the null modem to EITHER connector on the
DLM right side. If you do not have a null modem adapter, remove the break
out box from the back of the DLM carrying case and insert it between the
ribbon cable and the DLM. Set all the switches on the Break out Box to
ON except pins 2,3,4, and 5. Using the patch wires attach the pin 2 on
one side to pin 3 on the other. On the side with pin 2 attached, attach
pin 3 to pin 2 on the other, like an “X”. Now you have made a simple null
modem.
Program INSTRUCTIONS
On your PC start HYPER TERM. Under FILE, Properties set the
“CONNECT USING” to “DIRECT TO COM 1” or whichever COM port you are attached
to. Select configure and set it to whatever speed you have the DLM200 set
to. ENSURE that “FLOW CONTROL” is set to “Xon/Xoff”. Click OK. Then click
OK.
With the DLM powered up type some keys on the PC keyboard
and see if they come through properly to the DLM. They should appear on
the EVEN (non highlighted) lines. If the do, you are ready to go. If they
do not then you may have a bad cable or the wrong comm port. Check your
wiring and try again. If they appear properly, but on the ODD lines, then
remove the NULL modem.
On the PC in HYPERTERM, Click TRANSFER, Capture TEXT and specify a file
for the HEX DUMP from the DLM. On the DLM hit “R” and answer the questions
